“Preparation and characterization of SOFT Materials” Technical Seminar

Amable Bernabé, Tecnical Coordinator of NANBIOSIS U6: Biomaterial Processing and Nanostructuring Unit of CIBER-BBN and ICMAB-CSIC is giving a seminar on Preparation and Characterization of SOFT Materials.

The seminar will tame place on Monday, 28 November 2020, at 12 PM at ICMAB in the Carles Miravitlles Seminar Hall,

I will make a brief explanation about the equipment for the characterisation of particulate materials, type of samples that can be analysed, reports, etc… I will also talk about the equipment for processing materials with C” -explains Amable Bernabé.

 Amable Bernabé joined the ICMAB-CSIC in 2004 as a research assistant working at the Spectroscopic Service. Two years after, in 2006, he was promoted to technical coordinator of the CIBER-BBN and ICMAB-CSIC research group Nanomol , and in 2008, he started as the technical manager of the Soft Materials characterization lab. Since 2009, he was appointed a permanent research technician at CSIC. Since the creation of the NANBIOSIS and its aproval as ICTS (Scientific and Tecnical Unique Infraestructure by the Spanish Government, Amable is the Tecnical Coordinator of the unit 6 of NANBIOSIS. His research interest is focused on the study and characterization of the physico-chemical properties of nanomaterials, particularly on particle size and shape, particle concentration, Z-Potential and stability studies.

Description of the SOFT Service: The SOFT Materials Service is scientific and technical service of the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (CSIC) and the Unit 6 of the ICTS-NANBIOSIS. The mission of this facility is the large-scale production and characterization of molecular biomaterials of therapeutic or biomedical interest, with controlled micro-, nano- and supramolecular structure. This unit is composed of the equipment and the experienced personnel to develop and apply efficient, robust and green technologies based on the use of supercritical fluids, such as compressed CO2

Manuel Doblaré, researcher of NANBIOSIS U13, new Chairman of IMDEA Materials Foundation

Manuel Doblaré researcher of the Group Applied Mechanics and Bioengineering AMB and NANBIOSIS U13 Tissue & Scaffold Characterization Unit of CIBER-BBN and I3A presides, from this month, the Board of Trustees of the Imdea Materiales Foundation.

The IMDEA Materials Institute, one of the seven Madrid Institutes for Advanced Studies (IMDEA), is a public research centre founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government. The goal of the Institute is to do research at the forefront of Material Science and Engineering, attracting talent from all around the globe, and collaborating with companies in an effort to transfer fundamental and applied knowledge into valuable technology

In an interview by I3A-UZ Manuel Doblaré highlights from IMDEA its great evolution and major strategic lines, with projects lasting three or four years and the balance he has achieved between very powerful basic research and strong collaboration with the industry.

Manuel Doblaré was the founder of the I3A and the forst scientific director of the CIBER-BBN. Today, in addition to chairing the IMDEA Materials Foundation, he is a Fellow of the European Alliance for Engineering and Biomedicine (EAMBES) and the World Biomechanics Council, as well as the director of the Gadea Ciencia Foundation, whose objective is to promote the improvement and advancement of science, technology and innovation in Spain.

Jesús Izco, Coordinator of NANBIOSIS, leading the Health Innovation Group at the MATERPLAT Steering Committee Meeting

MATERPLAT, the Spanish Technological Platform of Advanced Materials and Nanomaterials, emerged in 2008 as framework for meetings and collaborations between the different agents of the National Enterprise, Science and Technology System interested in promoting the research, development and application of advanced materials and nanomaterials.

On February 3, 2017 the leaders of the MATERPLAT Innovation Groups met to define the lines of action of the working groups during the year 2017. These groups are transportation, health, energy, raw materials, and cities Intelligent.

In the meeting the participants agreed as the main action of the Innovation Groups, the preparation of a document entitled “Technological Strategy of Advanced Materials and Nanomaterials – MATERPLAT”, which serves as a reference in the coming years to identify priorities and opportunities for R & D + i in the field of advanced materials and nanomaterials.

Multifunctional biomaterials and nanomaterials: the new technological revolution.

Nanotechnology is the application of nanoscience and, in its modern conception, implies having the ability to design nanomaterials for a specific purpose and to control the manufacturing processes that allow them to have the desired characteristics (composition, size, shape, surface characteristics).

This talk presents the developments in nanotechnology as a true technological revolution. The general concepts and the influence of nanotechnology in our lives shall be discussed with examples of recent advances, with special emphasis on those obtained in the Institute of Nanoscience of Aragon and Unit 9 of NANBIOSIS including with applications in the field of nanomedicine.
