Scientific presentation and use of the piezoelectric micromanipulator and the time-lapse incubator within the framework of the Genera Project

On the occasion of the training course in Assisted Reproduction that is held today at the CCMIJU facilities, within the Master’s Degree in Advanced Biotechnology (MUBA), organized by the University of Extremadura in collaboration with the CCMIJU, two systems of recent acquisition are handled within the framework of the project “Embryonic Genetics in Assisted Reproduction” (GENERA), co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) within the Spain’s Pluriregional Operational Program for Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) 2014-2020 and by the Consejería de Economía, Ciencia y Agenda Digital of the Junta de Extremadura.

The above mentioned systems are a Piezoelectric Micromanipulator that allows the introduction of needles or capillaries into the cells for subsequent microinjection, and a Time-lapse Incubator to regularly observe embryos, perform precise evaluations, and minimize embryonic culture stress. Both are installed in the assisted reproduction laboratory of the CCMIJU and are being used by 10 master’s students to carry out their practices.

The project has an eligible budget of €98,000, of which the ERDF co-financing rate (80%) amounts to 78,400 and the national contribution to €21,600. It is expected to be completed in June  2023.

Agreement signed with Spanish Government for the allocation of FEDER funds for Nanbiosis ICTS

In the framework of the FEDER Program in ICTS 2014-2020, a projects related to the ICTS NANBIOSIS has been selected by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities for co-financing with FEDER funds of the European Regional Development Funds program.

An agreement has been signed between Ministry of Science, Innovation and CCMIJU, institution that houses NANBIOSIS  U14, U19, U21, U22, U23, U24 for the co-financing of the Project ICTS-2019-14-46: “ACTUALIZACIÓN DE LAS INFRAESTRUCTURAS E IMPLEMENTACIÓN DE UN SISTEMA DE CONTROL DOCUMENTAL Y DE GESTIÓN LIMS PARA POTENCIAR LAS CAPACIDADES DE LAS UNIDADES DE LA ICTS DISTRIBUIDA NANBIOSIS (AILIMS-NANBIOSIS)”

 The total budget of the project amounts to € 597.000, with 80% financing with FEDER Funds.

CCMIU is processing the necessary contracting procedures for the execution of this project.

NANBIOSIS keeps working in SAFE-N-MEDTECH!

On March 10-12 a two-day meeting between representatives of NANBIOSIS units, took place at the  Jesús Usón Minimum Invasive Surgery Center (CCMIJU), in Cáceres, to plan the work to be done in the coming months and carry out some tests within the framework of the European project Safe-N-MedTech.

Several units of the ICTS NANBIOSIS will carry out some of the F/Q, in vivo and in vitro characterizations applied to the test cases of the project. NANBIOSIS is actively involved and works in close collaboration with the four Test Case Developers: Stryker, RCL, HELIA Biomonitoring and TECNAN. Additionally, NANBIOSIS is the leader of WP3 Preclinical Research in nano enabled MTs.

The Safe-N-MedTech European Project will create an open innovation platform that accelerates the development of medical devices based on nanotechnologies. The project counts with 28 partners coordinated by TECNAN (Navarre, Spain), together with BIOKERALTY, the research branch of the global health companies Keralty. The new project is part of the Open Innovation Test Bed initiative (OITB) launched by the European Commission with the aim of accelerating the development of medical devices based on nanotechnologies in Europe and abroad. The project has a European funding of 15 million euros.

We expect that the Safe-N-MedTech test bed will help to accelerate the development nanotechnology based medical technologies products and services for future applications in clinical practice.

On April 22, Dr. Jaume Veciana received a Mention of Honor from the current President of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, during the celebration of the X Anniversary of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery “Jesus Usón” for his commitment, effort and dedication in the creation of the Singular Scientific Technological Infrastructures (ICTS) NANBIOSIS, in collaboration with the Center for Biomedical Research Center in Bioingeneering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN).

10th Anniversary of the New Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (JUMISC)

Next Friday, 21st April, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the new JUMISC, betting on training and on research and development activities. 

In its ten years of background we emphasize the following figures:

  • 500 trained physicians,
  • 160 training activities per year
  • More than 100 R&D projects with 7.930.800 € funding
  • 17 patents,
  • The creation of a spin-off,
  • The development of 25 apps,
  • More than 623 scientific collaborators,
  • 500 visits received from more than 500 institutions.

10 years full of training courses and European R&D projects. We are so proud for  the promotion and creation of the  Clúster Sociosanitario of Extremadura (Health Cluster), for obtaining the Good Laboratory Practice to  carry out preclinical trials, for launching a Program of training on Assisted Reproduction, for creating a 3D Department to develop apps, for being included as ICTS in the Spanish Map of Singular Facilities and in the CIBER-CV (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Cardiovasculares).

Jesus Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (JUMISC), one of NANBIOSIS partners together with CIBER-BBN, is a multidisciplinary institution devoted to research and innovation in health sciences.
