NANBIOSIS researcher Santiago Grijalvo presented new polymeric nanoparticle strategies for nucleic acid and phytochemical delivery at RANN XIV.
Barcelona, August 2026 — Santiago Grijalvo, researcher at NANBIOSIS Unit U12, presented an oral communication at the XIV Meeting on Nucleic Acids and Nucleosides (RANN XIV), held in Barcelona on 29 August 2026.
His presentation, “A Modular PLGA Nanoplatform Integrating Antisense Oligonucleotide Delivery and Antioxidant Co-Therapy,” highlighted recent research into polymeric nanoparticles as delivery vehicles for nucleic acids and phytochemicals. The work explores the potential of these nanoplatforms to combine different therapeutic components and improve their delivery, supporting the development of advanced nanomedicine strategies.
The research was conducted in collaboration with CIBER-BBN and CIBER-NED, bringing together expertise from different fields to investigate innovative approaches for therapeutic delivery.
NANBIOSIS expertise in nucleic acid delivery
The participation of NANBIOSIS researchers at RANN XIV reflects the infrastructure’s involvement in research addressing challenges in nanomedicine, nucleic acid delivery and advanced therapeutic technologies.
The meeting brought together young researchers and experienced experts working across nucleic acid and nucleoside chemistry and biology, including structural studies, advanced therapies, molecular modelling, bioinformatics and synthetic methodologies. RANN XIV was held at the Hotel Barceló Sants in Barcelona and was organised alongside the International Round Table on Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids (IRT 2026).
NANBIOSIS was also represented among the event organisers. Prof. Ramon Eritja, Scientific Director of NANBIOSIS Unit 29, and Dr. Anna Aviñó, Scientific Coordinator of Unit 29, were members of the RANN XIV and IRT 2026 Organising Committee.
Through its multidisciplinary capabilities, NANBIOSIS supports research and development in drug delivery, nucleic acids, nanomaterials and nanomedicine, helping researchers and companies advance innovative biomedical solutions from development towards preclinical applications.
